Educational Programs

A Field Trip Unlike Any Other

ANHC's school visit programs align with Alaska state curriculum standards and offer students a deeply personal encounter with Alaska Native history, culture, language, and traditions — led by Alaska Native educators.

Programs are available for all grade levels, from pre-K through university. We welcome students from every background and believe that understanding Alaska Native culture is essential education for every Alaskan.

Pre-K – 2nd Grade

Introduction to Alaska Native cultures through storytelling, simple demonstrations, and sensory engagement. Focus on natural world connections.

3rd – 5th Grade

Village site tour with educator guides. Introduction to Alaska's 11 cultural regions, traditional tools, and how Alaska Native peoples adapted to their environments.

6th – 8th Grade

In-depth cultural and historical context — including the impact of colonization, boarding schools, and modern Alaska Native life. Guided Hall of Cultures tour.

9th – 12th Grade

Critical thinking program exploring Alaska Native sovereignty, language revitalization, environmental stewardship, and cultural identity in contemporary Alaska.

University / Adult

Custom academic programs supporting research, social work, education, and cultural competency training. Includes access to scholars and community knowledge holders.

Transportation

School buses can park adjacent to ANHC. Our free summer shuttle does not operate for school groups — please coordinate your own transport.

Lunch & Facilities

Covered outdoor spaces are available for packed lunches. Café Di'eshchin is open in summer for additional snacks.

Booking Timeline

We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially for spring/summer visits. Fall slots fill early.
